I know silhouettes are kind of everywhere now, but these playful twists on the classic profile are keeping my heart in it. I love the shot above by Tim Walker (whose very expensive book I did end up getting and am loving every inch of).

These puppets from Owly Shadow Puppets really capture the same fairy-tale like whimsy as Tim Walker's shot, but in a way you could actually capture for yourself, order online, and have in your living room.

I really can't say much more about these except that they are too, too cute, mostly because the website they're from is entirely in Japanese (originally found on Oh Joy!). . . anyone out there able to help us out??

The animals leaping out from between the books are just too funny. Love that little curly pig's tail!

The Japanese website says it's some index used for categorical sections. They recommend using them in the office to bring whimsy to lifeless shelves of boring documents!

This year the Seattle International Film Festival has used silhouettes in its advertisements. This short film is particularly fascinating: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6473CuL5004

They are place holders for books, cds etc. Made of felt (100% polyester) and cost about $16 per animal. Currently for sale are pigs, reindeers and giraffes. Cute!

I'm writing because I was very disappointed when you took the craft site off line on May 31,2009. I thought you would leave it so all could enjoy what everyone had displayed for awhile. When will you post the winners from there?

Thanks everyone! I never would have guessed those book dividers were made from felt, would you?
Beth - I think the post you're referring to is the header contest finalists? The post is still up, you can follow the link to it here:

And, even better, the winners' fantastic work is on display, right up there as our header!
