TV Crafts : The Tale of Ted
Posted by Hosanna Houser
Ted is the beloved bear of set stylist and cookie decorator extraordinaire Daniele Boglivi Fiori. She has had him for many years and of course is very attached to him.
Ted on vacation in Costa Rica
Then one day Dani and her husband added a new member to their family, a sweet dog, most of the time, by the name of Hope. Unfortunately Hope was feeling a little insecure about being the newest member and took it out on Ted. This was a very difficult situation for Dani cause she loves them both so much.
Hope is trying to not look guilty about Ted's missing nose. Spot looks on and chose to not get involved.
Dani asked if I could take a look at Ted, and maybe help get him fixed up. I was fearing the worst, but fortunately the plastic foundation for Ted's nose was spared, so that made things much easier. Armed with a scrap of leather, a little stuffing, some basic craft tools and a selection of brushes, I was able to revive Ted and hopefully give him many more years (as long as he avoids Hope).
Below is a little gallery of the repair work and his "after" image.
1 Ted's condition when he was brought to me
2 Before he arrived he was cleaned
3 That's him wrapped in a pillow case
4 assessing the situation upon arrival
5 fortunately the plastic foundation of the nose was still in good shape
6 I spread contact cement on a piece of leather and on the top of the plastic piece. Once dried to tacky, I stretched the leather tight when covering the plastic
7 after trimming the leather, I ran a running stitch around the edge and pulled it tight
8 how the nose looked with the new piece of leather
9 in the process of restuffing the nose, as well as using embroidery floss to fix Ted's smile

11 various brushes I used to fluff out Ted's fur
12 Ted after his repair
13 Group shot! Dani and Ted are very happy!
