Times are quite busy between work, the craft sale and the Holidays. But there is no way I could bypass making an advent calendar. My kids would rather not have Christmas gifts than give up their advent calendar. It is a looooong tradition in my family. When I was little, my mom tied 24 small gifts onto a long string. Every day we would cut one off and as the string got shorter and shorter, we knew Christmas was coming closer. I don't really have the right place to hang a long string with presents, so I just hang them horizontally. And since at this time of year I am always crazy busy, I make the calendar as simple as I can .
I buy red and white paper every year to add to what's left from the year before, tie around this twine (which is the best wrapping bargain ever) and tie it to a strong cotton yarn.
This year I didn't even bother with numbers ... they love choosing whatever 'feels' right that day to open. So no excuses of being too busy this year. Certain traditions have to keep going, even if they change a little. Maybe you want to add it to your traditions as well ?! And if you have a bit more time (planning ahead for next year maybe) you can find many ideas for advent calendars here)
