We got some beautiful snow on Thursday! It made me want to send some snowflakes off to my friends in warmer climates. Below you'll find a "snow globe in an envelope". To make it you'll need a few paper doilies, card stock, glue pen or stick, and a plastic sleeve (the kind that a packaged card, etc may come in). Click through the gallery below for how-to!

1 Clip your snowflakes out of paper doilies
2 Cut a card to fit your plastic sleeve. Write a note on one side of card.
3 Using a glue pen or stick, attach a few doilies to the other side of your card.
4 Slide card into sleeve, and sprinkle several more snowflakes inside. These loose snowflakes will create the snow-globe effect when the card is shaken.
5 Seal the plastic, and there you have it- a snow globe fit for an envelope.
6 For the blue card, I used the blue pattern from inside a security envelope.
These snowflake cards remind me of some doily valentines that were featured in Living in 2004. Why not use your extra doilies to make some? You can also try these snowflake-inspired craft projects, or get more ideas for handmade cards.

Hi Blake - A quick question. Where can I buy doilies? I've been looking for them for sometime to use in my jewelry making. I am thinking of adding patterns the silver surface pressing doilies. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! /Mieko

That's a great idea Mieko. The Royal Store (theroyalstore.com) has some beautiful round doilies. Hygloss Products (hyglossproducts.com) has a nice selection of different colors and shapes. Good luck and let us know how they turn out!

I love how the doily became a flower. I'm pretty set on what I'm doing for Valentines this year, but now I have a whole new technique to try out on my cards this spring - thanks!

These are so pretty. I am going to try these with my kids. I think they would enjoy the fun of cutting up the doily and then, well, what kid doesn't like a glue stick!
