I'm going to a bridal shower for one of my dearest friends on Saturday. Since a main focus of the shower is unwrapping gifts, I want my wrapping to be extra special. I was inspired by these tissue pom poms done in the Spring 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings (I think they set the trend- now they are everywhere!)
The flower I made for my gift topper is somewhere between the size of the napkin ring seen on the table, and the giant poms suspended above.
You'll find the full how-to for these tissue pom poms through the link above. I just adjusted the size of my tissue paper for a medium sized flower (I used two full sheets of tissue, divided into four pieces each).
Also, instead of using wire to secure the center of my flower, I tied a pretty little grosgrain ribbon so the topper could be removed and used as a floral headpiece, (a nod to the ribbon hat tradition of bridal showers).

It could even be used as a giant corsage- (think SJP, SATC) Making corsages could be a great shower activity too!

You could make a smaller pom poms, tie them to hoop ear wires and have the cutest little earring shower gifts for everyone too!

SJP does wear something almost exactly like this as a hat, when she and Berger go out on a date. He makes fun of her for it.

I love the idea of using these for gift wrapping! I have some on wire stems in a vase at my house, but I had never thought about using them as a gift topper! I am definitely going to use this at least a few times coming up.
