Here in the Crafts department we have quite a collection of vintage craft books. These never cost much, so I'm in the habit of buying them whenever I see them. Many of them are amazingly dense with information and detailed projects, so they really are a great resource. I also love the covers and titles - see the gallery below for a selection.
1 This one’s got a lot going on
2 kind of a strange still life
3 this one’s so cheerful!
4 I love handmade puppets. so does this little fellow.
5 this is a great title
6 this book has great projects
7 as does this one… and great images
8 sock puppet!
9 quite a still-life

12 this one has great batik crafts
13 an earlier edition of things to make and do
14 sadly this book has no jacket – but it’s a great one. Finally something to do with those oddments! Thanks Betsey!

I have many of these books in my collection. I just love going through them for inspiration and reminders of crafts that are not as popular now...Like fashions, I'm sure they'll be back.

Things to Make or Do was the craft book I had as a child. Its what I give credit to for making me such a crafty person! Oh what I would do to get my hands on another copy of that book!

What a cool post! I love looking through vintage books and seeing what the trends used to be. Of course, it makes me wonder if future generations will look back at what we make now and think it's all kitschy and goofy.

I love these books! I have a collection of my own. I like anything from the 70s. It's so bright and cheerful, and gives you the impression that anyone can enjoy making things!
