Posted by

What are your plans next weekend?  On September 25th and 26th come join us at the New York Hall of Science for Maker Faire, an event designed to celebrate the collaboration of arts & crafts, engineering, food, music, science, and technology.

We'll be demonstrating some projects from the upcoming October issue at our exhibit.  We're trying to keep the details under wraps but I think you'll find lots of exciting and spooky ideas to take home with you.  We're so excited to see you at Maker Faire, that-

For a chance to win, leave us a comment about why you're excited about Maker Faire, along with your name and a valid email address.  All comments must be received by 6 PM Wednesday, 9/15.  We'll choose fifteen commenters at random to win a Maker Faire day pass ticket.

See official rules here.  Please be aware, comments may take time to show up on our site.

Be sure to keep a lookout on our Twitter account for more ticket giveaways.

Hope to see you there!

  • discovered the beauty of crafting recently but liked grafts much earlier. seems exciting!

  • I've never been to a Maker's Faire before because I lived so far south, but this year I'm finally living close enough to go! I would love to be able to see all the clever and wonderful things people' sso inspiring!

  • I haven't been to big fair like this before cos I am not living in any big city, I saw some clips on youtube and amazed how creative people's mind were in "maker faire", it's unlimited and they were doing stuff that I haven't thought it could be done "this way" I wish I have a chance to get there.

  • I am a crafty nerd that loves to get together with like-minded folk. When I found out that the Double Stitch twins would be there, I knew I HAD to go!

  • I love all the creativity. I knit, crochet, sew and always thinking about what i can make next. I can't imagine how stimulating Maker Faire would be live and in person. And science is always fascinating. My particulare obsessions are astronomy and volcanoes but i like all science.

  • I am excited to see the Worlds Fair area and all the crafty husband is excited as they have modeling stuff coming as well. I will be parking myself at your spot and happily spend all day being crafty with Martha and her crew!

  • Would love to get free tickets for this event!

  • As a knitted and a journalist , I'm always looking for inspiration.

  • I've heard so many great things about Maker Faire, and would love the opportunity to get there, esp. in NY!

  • I can't wait for the Maker Faire! I just learned about it very fortuitously as I have just begun to design/build something which will require a lot of network from people who have done this sort of thing before ... that and I want to see big machines fight each other :-)

  • Maker Faire is going to be Awesome with a capital A! I'm super excited to see so many innovative people in one spot doing what they love.

  • What?! This event is going to be Epic!!!! THE First WORLD Maker Faire ever, and NY has been blessed to be its host! Why am I excited? I’m hoping to get my mind blown away by all the innovation, all the creativity and of course fun. Maker in NY to me is that landmark event that will herald a new science and inventive era in America, a scientific Zeitgeist, a resurgence of DIYers on some willy wonka meets Einstein type stuff, out the box inventors that will take our world to places we haven’t been.
Its feels right and it’s about time, science for all, science for the people!!
Frankly the event is going to be bananas, I’m bringing notepad, camera and cash to spend and three children who can get bit by the science and innovation bug!

  • This event always looks amazing. I'd love to win day passes.

  • I am so happy that we are finally getting the Maker Faire in NYC. I was even more thrilled to hear that someone I know is going to be one of the vendors! I really love seeing how technology and craftiness collide to make such wonderful new things!

  • I have discovered embroidery! It makes me calm and empties my head! I'd like to go to the Faire to see what is out there!

  • I absolutely would love to attend the Maker Faire. There are so many amazing Makers presenting!

  • Heard about MakerFaire a few years ago and longingly followed the action via the internet. When I found out NYC would be a venue in 2010 I was thrilled! Can't wait to be there - I know it will be grand!!

  • I have attended the RI Maker faire for the last 2 years, and while small was fascinating. My son (now 6) loves all the cool stuff to see so we are driving down to NY after a birthday party to go on Sunday. My wife, while not interested in the small array of things to see at RI is excited about the scrapbooking/crafting type stuff that will be in NY!

I'm excited to get another look at the maker bots and the other electronic wonders. I'm excited to see things like the life size mouse trap.

  • I get so much inspiration and so many great ideas from craft fairs...this one is supposed to be the Mother of them all so I can only imagine how much fun it would be and how many projects it would inspire!!

  • I would love to win tickets to this event because I think it would be amazing to be at a place where all kinds of people are gathered in one place doing what they love to do.

The positive energy flowing at the Faire will be incredible and I would love to be a part of that experience!

  • The NY Hall of Science is a neat choice of venue for the Maker Faire - I've never been to either so I would love to be able to check both out at the same time!

  • I've been so interested in all the technology making its way into crafts..would love to see it in person!

  • I have been wanting to attend a Maker Faire for years! I love the craft aspect of it, but also like that it has a scope beyond a normal "craft fair." Now that it has come to NY, I must go check out the scene!

  • I am so excited because I am a big fan of Make mag and many many of the vendors who will be there.

  • I've been crafting for 25 years (I even have a origami related tattoo) but have never had a chance to go to Maker Faire. I'd love to see what's new on the crafting scene. Plus I love the Hall of Science. My parents would take me there every year when we came to New York to visit the grandparents.

  • We are a family of makers, and in my hometown of NY that weekend!

  • i just love crafts! and food! and Queens!

  • This is the first year it's not only on the West Coast or Austin,TX. The instructables website is my favorite for all the inspiration of ideas it provides as a creative outlet as Martha's detailed vision to pursue every possible detail to give our lives a Zen perfection. The breath & depth of Make magazine is stunning, I'm sorry I didn't learn of it in time to get Craft also! I don't look forward to NYC traffic from my days as a trucker, but sacrifices must be made to enjoy things you love! P.S. The Fabulous Beakman Boys & Whatever Martha kill me!

  • Maker Faire is inspiring. I know that I will go home reved up to try something(s) new

  • I'm so excited about Maker Faire, not only because I love me a good craft (especially a Martha craft!), but I also live in Queens and I'm SO proud that this amazing show is being hosted in my borough! :)

  • I absolutely LOVE crafts and making things! I would be so excited to go to this event and be suurounded by so much creativity!

  • I have always loved to craft and to discover new craft ideas. It's great to have a Maker Faire near by so I can take my two sons and introduce them to all kinds of creativity.

  • I have never heard about this before. I would love to go because it sounds like craft heaven.

  • Looking forward to learning more about 3D printing and seeing some demonstrations!

  • There's nothing we like better than Art-meets-Science! My wife and I were married on Halloween and are hands-on crafters; we eagerly await your October and holiday magazines for inspiration, so attending the Maker Faire and visiting your booth would be a real TREAT indeed! Thanks for the chance.

  • I would love to attend the fair! I am just beginning the journey into quilt making! So blocks, patterns and squares are all on my to do list when the sewing machine gets pulled out!

  • I live too close NOT to go! I have to make it there somehow...

  • I've never been to a Maker Faire, I would love to visit in person.

  • Martha Stewart meets Maker! My two worlds peanut butter and chocolate! ....mmmmmm perfection

  • Interactive Clothing, soft circuits, etc. are my main motivations for attending the World Maker Faire. I truly would like to see Diana Eng's fashion show which will happen there and I'll be in NYC during those days.

  • The creativity is almost over whelming, and time well spent.

  • I have been excited to attend the Makers Faire since I learned about it at the World Science Festival! More importantly, my 6 year old son Jack is very excited to see all the wonderful things conjured up by people's imaginations!

  • This would be my first Maker Faire ever, and I'd love to go! I recently moved out of the city, too, and can't think of a better reason to come back!

  • I love to craft and would love to attend!

  • I am wanna be crafter. Everything I see I tell myself I can make it. I would love to experience the Maker Faire atmospere, since I never been there before or heard about it until today. Currently my focus is on digital scrapbooking. I would love to take picture of the Maker Faire setting.

  • I'm excited because so many of my blog writers will be a part of the Maker Faire. The only thing better than reading about all the great stuff there would be to BE there!

  • I love Maker Faire! I went once in Austin and it was a lot of fun. I'd love to go to the NYC version. It's a great event for crafty nerds!

  • I am a maker 100% so I would love to be surrounded by other makers... making things!

  • I never heard of the Maker Faire but it sounds so AWESOME! I'd love the chance to experience this with my children- it actually sounds like something that would interest my 10 year old as well as my 15 year old- that's quite a rare feat! I was at the World's Fair at Flushing Meadows Park when I was an infant, but I unfortunately don't remember it... My kids would definitely remember this! SO COOL!

  • I would love an opportunity to get out and see some new ideas for crafting. I've not been out at any exhibits in a few years due to illness and am also physically challenged. I live for crafting. I've watched your show for years and have stolen many of your ideas; from decorating and event planning - to simple dinners. My love for crafting has helped me bond with my children and grandchildren despite my inability to run around with them. I have my 7 yr old grandson watching your show and helping me cook and craft. We have had hours of fun and I look forward to being inspired by a Maker Faire adventure.

  • I know it's past the 15th, but I thought i would try just in case you have an extra ticket left. I am excited about the Maker Faire because I love crafts and I also love technology (I'm a computer teacher).

  • Who won the tickets that are worth their weight in gold!!!! :)
