Behind the Scenes : The October Living Cover
Posted by Blake Ramsey
Anyone who subscribes to Living may have noticed that there are TWO October covers: one that is sent to our subscribers, and one that is on newsstands. Those two covers were painstakingly chosen from several options—we want only the best for our readers. Here is a behind-the-scenes peek at the process of our October cover shoot, including the carving of an eleven-month-old pumpkin!
1 One option was this bright-eyed owl. Here, Marcie uses downloadable clip-art to trace the design.
2 The essential pumpkin-carving kit, and the original owl pumpkin photo from the story for reference.
5 Marcie illuminates the pumpkin from within, to see how the carving is going.
6 You'd never guess—this photo shoot took place this past August—Marcie had been storing this pumpkin in her office for 11 months!
8 Tanya styles with some preserved ginkgo leaves.
10 Another option was these candy treat bags.
11 This was a mock-up of the treat bag cover concept.
12 The treat bags didn't make the cover, but they did end up somewhere else in the magazine—do you know where?
14 The cover option on the right was distributed to our subscribers.
15 Ditte Isager, our photographer, styles the treat bags.
