When my dear friend came to visit, I made the no-knead bread for her. (I must admit a slight obsession with baking that bread ... it is almost as satisfying to me as finishing a perfectly crafted/sewn/knit gift). My friend loved the bread, but given that she lives far away and I can't make it for her more often, I thought I'd give her the book and pot needed to bake it herself. Since I have a hard time giving store-bought gifts, I thought I'd personalize it by making a pot holder.
We developed this pattern for our Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts. I just changed it ever so slightly—hand-stitched the back of the bias tape, rather than sewing it all at once—but I like the outcome just as much.

I hope my friend does, too. Both her future breads, as well as the pot holder.
