Last night I went to an event called AudioWear, created by my friends Christie Wright and Arjen Noordeman, who call themselves Elasticbrand. AudioWear is a collection of porcelain musical jewelry that you can wear but also play. I remember having dinner at their apartment a couple years ago and seeing the first sketches of these pieces hanging on their wall.
Christie and Arjen used 3-D modeling equipment with ceramic reproduction techniques to design and create the instruments. After perfecting the pieces, they recorded an album with indie hip-hop, electronic, and analogue musicians who were asked to create sample-based and live compositions.
This all came to a head last night in a live performance at the Museum of Art and Design.
Check out the video of the making of AudioWear.
