Shopping for supplies here in the Crafts Department has led to the discovery of some wonderfully kooky shops in New York—some of them are just great places to find general supplies, others are super specific. A few of my favorites are below. If you live here or are planning a trip soon, check them out!
6 The women who work there are incredibly friendly—and STRONG! They pull those heavy rolls of fabric from the shelves with jaw-dropping ease.
10 Kooper’s Chocolates was established in 1937, and to my surprise is tucked away in the West Village of Manhattan (my neighborhood!).
11 I went there one morning to look at some candy for Marcie and felt like I had walked into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.
21 Blick Art Materials on Bond Street in SoHo is a great one-stop shop if you're in need of general supplies.
24 All In One Suppliers in midtown Manhattan has been around for more than 70 years. They have every type of mannequin you could imagine.
New York Elegant Fabrics is located at 222 West 40th Street New York, NY
Koppers Chocolates is located at 39 Clarkson Street New York, NY
Dick Blick is located at 1 Bond St # A New York, NY
All In One Suppliers is located at 223 West 35th Street, New York, NY
The Compleat Sculptor is located at 90 Vandam Street New York, NY
Happy Shopping!

Awesome! I love having these ideas for the next time I go to NY. I think this might be one of my favorite posts from The Craft Dept!

This should be a regular weekly blog. Kooky places to shop for crafting all over the country...

Great stores - I wish I lived in New York! Make sure to tell candy lover Kevin Sharkey about Koppers or maybe he already knows. I sure would love to visit the fabric shop.

Great roundup! I live in NYC, but you shared a ton of places that I haven't visited. I'm definitely looking forward to branching out from my regular crafty haunts!

Hi
i'm coming to NYC in Dec and as i've got no idea of where these shops are could you please provide their addresses and point out what shops are close to each other so i can go from one to the other. in fact it would be great if you guys could come up with a craft/resource/candy guide tour guide of all the places you go to. i see Kevin Sharkey visits great places and i really don't have a clue of where they all are in relation to each other. i don't want to waste time by going up and down all over the place trying to find them. I know someone has printed up 'walking tours of Paris". maybe you could provide us with "walking tours of NYC" for us crafters/foodies?????
Cheers
Angela

It would be really helpful for you to put the address of these stores.
