Around Town : Hulaween!
Posted by Jim Noonan
On Friday night I had the privilege and great pleasure to accompany Martha and various guests to the New York Restoration Project's annual "Hulaween" party at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
Hosted by none other than the fabulous Bette Midler, this year's benefit was given the theme of "Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead)" and the event raised quite a sum of money to support NYRP, a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming open space in underserved communities to create a greener, more sustainable New York City.
The master of ceremonies for the evening was the very funny Judy Gold, a delicious latin-inspired menu was designed and executed by the incomparable Rick Bayliss, Michael Kors made a quick appearance to judge the evening's costume contest and the whole event was topped off with a brilliant performance by Stevie Wonder!
Click through the photo gallery below for a glimpse into a fabulous evening!
My costume for the evening was the "Googly-Eyed Footman." Here I covered a simple black mask entirely in googly eyes!
Assistant Art Director of the Martha Show, Robert Diamond, gets cinched into his fabulous corset.
Jewels and feathers finish off the headpiece and accoutrements of his gorgeous costume.
Now, that's a necklace!
Robert beaded this gorgeous butterfly mask all by hand. He's quite a talent!
The spectacular Robert Diamond (who was later chosen by Michael Kors as the best single costume of the night!)
Robert poses with Tilly Grimes (as a Broken China Doll), the costume designer from Martha Stewart's Haunted House, this year's Halloween Special.
Posing in the hallway outside Dressing Room 1, backstage at the Martha Stewart Show.
Tilly doing her best Broken China Doll impression, but this time with champagne!
I had some too!
I loved this fly swatter...
...chasing after this bug!
Robert and a fellow showgirl pose for a quick photo on the way into dinner.
Three lovely hula-dancing ladies greeted guests outside the entrance to the banquet hall.
Guests arriving...
And more quests arriving!
Inside the hall - so extravagant!
A psychedelic stage!
Tilly and Robert just love to pose.
At our table (#33) I was happy to run into fellow MSLO crafter, Blake Ramsey!
The table was amazing.
Robert could not get over the skull centerpiece.
And I flipped for these campy candles.
The Divine Miss M entertains the crowd.
Robert and Martha (as Motha).
Kevin Sharkey (as a Member of the Clergy) and Daisy's guest, Jared (as Slash from Guns N' Roses - he lost his little hat!)
Martha with Robert & Daisy.
Right next to us was Michael Kors' festive table.
Michael Kors and Debra Messing.

Martha poses with opera singer, Renee Fleming.
Two Divine M's! Martha and Midler!
The only food I got a picture of was dessert - which was spectacular. Chocolate three ways!
Day of the Dead!
The chocolate skull was full of the most delicious mousse.
The evening was going so well until my googly-eyed shoe decided to break.
Not to worry...
Have a margarita...
Or four.
Stevie Wonder performed for at least an hour in what must have been the longest medley of amazing songs I've ever heard.
And then the mask just had to come off.
Happy Hallow/Hula-Ween!!
