Make It : DIY Marbled Glassware

Posted by

Today's guest post comes from Honestly WTF, one of our favorite resources for DIY's and inspiration:

Who knew adding marbled nail polish to the bottom of glass cups would be the perfect way to add color and pattern to your next tablescape or party? This is a super easy technique that can be applied to a variety of different glassware - hope you enjoy it!

You'll need:

- flat bottomed glassware

- variety of colorful nail polish

- clear nail polish

- painter's tape

- an disposable plastic container

- a toothpick

- nail polish remover

Mask the bottom of the glass with painter's tape.

Fill a disposable plastic container with water. Open all the nail polish bottles and start dripping polish into the water, one color at a time.

Layer the colors one on top of the other. Take a toothpick and pull the polish out from the center to create a swirly pattern. Work quickly as the polish tends to harden and clump up over time.

Submerge the bottom of the glass into the layers of polish. Allow the polish to collect around the sides of the glass and pull out carefully.

Allow to dry completely before adding a layer of clear polish.

Once everything has dried, remove the painters tape and touch up with the nail polish remover and a cotton swab.

Your colorful and glowing glasses are finished! *Painted glassware should be hand washed only.

Bottom's up!

  • Very pretty! I assume that only hand washing is appropriate for these?

  • Crafter Comment:

    Yes, hand wash only!

  • That a cool idea. Never would have thought of this technique. So creative.

  • Thanks Laura, I figured but I like to ask. These would make great gifts!

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing

  • Genius!

  • I think you have to work very quickly and have new varnish so it is very thin. We tried this with very inexpensive varnish and weren't so quick as it took a while to drop off the brush....so when it hit the water it kinda hardened. And I think it might be important to have the water and polish/varnish at the same temperture....room temperture. Now to go out and buy more varnish.

  • thats is a cool idea, something different

  • This works equally well on nails...I have been doing this to my fingernails for years.

  • So beautiful! Now I know what could I do with all these nail polishes in my house!

  • I think this would be versatile enough to change your glassware w/ the seasons

  • I love it!

  • çok güzel .

  • this is good idea to use nailpolish for marbling(ebru)
