Inspiration Board : Draft a Peter Pan Collar

Posted by

If you read Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing, you already know that Gretchen Hirsch is all about teaching basic sewing skills that some of us (guilty!) may have skipped right over when we learned to sew.

Now you can find all of Gretchen's sewing knowledge in one place. Her new book, Gertie's New Book for Better Sewing, has instructions and tips on working with vintage patterns, making alterations, and drafting patterns. It even has original patterns by Gretchen, with variations for each so you can get comfortable making changes and alterations on your own.

To celebrate the release of the book, STC Craft is sharing instructions straight from the book on how to draft your own Peter Pan collar -- just like the one Gertie is wearing in the above photo. Once you learn how to draft a collar, you can add one to any pattern, or sew it right onto a shirt you already own. Get the instructions for drafting a collar here.

Do you have your eye on any of the patterns in Gertie's new book?

  • Gertie's book is even more beautiful and amazing than I expected. She is the real thing, so talented and smart. I think we all want to be more like Gertie, I know I do. Great post.
