I recently went to one of our favorite NYC shops, Pins & Needles, to pick up some supplies and get advice for this baby blanket I've since finished-
I got some extra-soft batting and a little help with the construction from Rachel, the shop's owner. I chose two plaid cottons (a nod to Tartan- the baby's father is Scottish), cut them into equal squares, sewed them wrong sides together, flipped them right side out, and inserted the batting. After pinning the batting, I sewed along the edge- one inch inside- to secure the batting. I placed some French knots throughout the middle to further tack it in place. Ta-da! A handmade baby shower gift!
I was thrilled when Rachel told me that they are now carrying the new Lifestyle Craft line from fabric gurus Liberty of London. The new fabrics have been affordably priced to suit a wider range of craft and sewing projects- hurrah! Below you'll see more of my faves.
Maybe my next baby blanket will be a plaid and a wild floral- I love mixing patterns, and these bold colors would be great combined with a graphic print- maybe a polka dot or stripe? What do you think? What are your favorite fabrics to craft and sew with? Be sure to check out the other great fabrics Rachel has in her shop!
