Make It : Knitty Gritty

When you start a new knitting project, do you begin with the yarn or the pattern?  I like to work both ways - sometimes I will fall in love with a yarn that I am determined to knit with; other times I will see a pattern that is calling out my name (or rather, the name of the person who will receive the knitted item).

If you are looking for pattern inspiration, we have lots of projects to get you going.  We even have full detailed instructions for the beginner.

ft_feb03knit_002_vertIf you like to work from the yarn up, we've collaborated with Lion Brand to make some great yarns in classic Martha Stewart colours.

Of course, if you prefer to knit in a social setting look no further than your local yarn store for classes and knitting circles.  In New York our lovely friends at Purl Soho are always willing lend a hand.

These days I am working on a little pointed elf cap from Ravelry, which is another great resource for the knit and crochet community full of patterns, yarn, and forums (for troubleshooting, sharing, etc.).

  • I'm a big knitter of baby blankets and my friends seem to be having babies left and right. I'm working on a great textured chevron blanket pattern I got from my local yarn store on Ravelry and I'm doing it in the Brooklyn Nets colors. I've named this project #SnuggleBrooklyn :)

  • So cute, this is will definitely be my next project. Anyone has any advice on yarn that won't itch? I have sensitive skin...
