Make It : dresses for little girls

Posted by

I don't have many chances to make things for little girls, so when Martha came with her vintage dish towel collection and asked us to make dresses for her granddaughter with them, I was excited with the opportunity of cuteness (and if this photo doesn't do it for you, watch this video !)

Martha specifically asked for the 'sundress', the simplest dress, which is really my favorite too. But we couldn't stop ourselves to make a few other styles as well.

And bloomers ... talk about cuteness !

You know how much I like making dolls (and here and here), so I used the scraps to dress some (and their pet), which made the girls happy too.

So, if you have any 2 year old little in your life, see, if you might have some pretty patterned tea towels, download the pattern of your choice, and get your own dose of cuteness.

(obviously, you can use a pretty fabric as well. Just add a few inches, where we used selvedge for hems)

  • I just got the new June issue and when I turned the page and saw these adorable, I mean adorable little dresses. I can't wait to make one for my little girl Josephine who's three. Now I have a use for those old dishtowels I have in the drawer.

  • So super cute, I love these dresses!

  • The clothes are adorable. I love the dolls and would love to make one for my granddaughter, is that pattern available somewhere?

  • Loved this in Martha's Magazine. My grandmother had a huge collection of these beautiful linen towels and I now selling them in my gift shop located on the coast of Maine. This will be a great idea for my customers who love to sew. What a wonderful idea for re purposing!

  • Nice information share in this blog regarding the different dresses of the kids.

  • Love the cute patterns. My daughter loves to spin around in her cute little girl dresses. She thinks she is beautiful...which she is.. She loves being a girl.
